Negative Experience with ELEKTA Microcements

Recently, we came into possession of these photos of dissatisfied customers and decided to publish them.

We want to share this experience and warn all future buyers who intend to use microcement for renovating their properties. Unfortunately, their story is not a happy one – but at least it’s amusing (it wasn’t for them, but it might be for you).

Project Details

For their old stone house, they decided to use microcement as the ideal solution for bathrooms and floors. They used products from the renowned Italian company Elekta Painting (https://www.elektapainting.it):

  • PASTELONE for bathrooms and floors
  • Calceterra for walls

The total area covered with microcement was 1000 m². The importer of the materials was FAGUS d.o.o.

Initial Enthusiasm

Their contractor did a perfect job with the microcement. They were thrilled with the appearance of their newly renovated space. Everything looked perfect – flawless floors, spotless bathrooms, elegant walls. It was the moment when they believed they had made the right decision. What a mistake!

First Problems

However, the enthusiasm did not last long. When they first washed the floors, they noticed black spots starting to appear on the surface. The water was clearly penetrating under the sealant. Wow, Elekta! Congratulations on the fantastic floor protection! I mean, who needs waterproof sealant in a bathroom, right?

Bigger Problems with Showers

The real problems emerged when they started testing the showers. To their great disappointment, the sealant or filler from Elekta was not waterproof as claimed by the manufacturer. The water penetrated through the layers of microcement, causing damage and destroying their investment. The photos they uploaded to the gallery clearly show the damage. But hey, at least they got a unique artistic effect on the floors!

Contacting Elekta

When they noticed these serious problems, they immediately contacted their contractor, who then contacted Elekta directly. Their only response was to try resealing the surfaces, which of course was not a solution because neither their sealant nor filler prevented water from penetrating the microcement. This was clearly demonstrated by the examples of damage in the gallery. Thanks, Elekta, for the impeccable advice! It didn’t help, but at least it made them laugh.

Financial Loss

Due to problems with Elekta microcement, they were unable to open the property on time, resulting in significant financial loss. They lost precious time and money due to inadequate products and poor support. Thanks, Elekta, you really made their summer special!

Warning to Future Buyers

Be careful and consult thoroughly before deciding to use microcement to avoid extremely unpleasant experiences like they had. They hope that their story helps others avoid similar problems and that you at least have a laugh at their misfortune.
